Quinta da Lagoa Velha has 13 ha of vines planted around the town of Vilarinho do Bairro, in the center of the demarcated region of Bairrada, spread over several plots.
Planted on small slopes of chalky-clay soils, typical of the region, the vines are nourished by the true terroir of Bairrada, allowing the creation of wines of excellence.
White Grape Varietals: Arinto, Bical, Cerceal, Chardonnay, Maria Gomes, and Sauvignon Blanc
Red Grape Varietals: Baga, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Touriga Nacional
The Bairrada region is located between the urban centers of Águeda and Coimbra, mainly made up of vineyards from the municipalities of Anadia, Cantanhede, Mealhada, and Oliveira do Bairro.
Known for wines of enormous freshness and acidity, it has a climate marked by the Atlantic influence and chalky-clay soils. Here, exceptional conditions are met for growing the Baga variety, the most preeminent variety in the region.
With small berries and a closed bunch, known for its late maturation, this terroir makes it very suitable for sparkling wines and reds that resist the test of time.

In 1887, Eng. Tavares da Silva, graduate in Agronomy and director of the Practical School of Viticulture and Pomology in Bairrada, started the first experiences of sparkling wine that would completely change the wine sector in the region.
Due to his genius, in 1893, the first Portuguese sparkling wine company was born, forming the basis for other large companies in the region, known as Caves.
Only in 1991 was the Denominação de Origem Protegida appellation recognized for Bairrada sparkling wines, cementing its importance for the wine sector in Portugal.
